How to use Capacity Building funding effectively?

Capacity Building funds are designated for specific categories of individual supports. For instance, you might allocate funds for therapy sessions, such as occupational therapy or physiotherapy. While you can adjust these allocations over time to meet changing needs, it's important to note that you can't transfer funds between categories. Each category aligns with specific goals outlined in your plan, ensuring that your funding is used in a way that directly supports your desired outcomes.

For instance, if your total Capacity Building budget is $5,000, comprising $3,000 for therapies under Improved Daily Living and $2,000 for Improved Living Arrangements, you cannot reallocate the funds entirely to one category. This ensures you work towards achieving goals across all designated areas.

Skill development

Our team of committed support workers are instrumental in skill development initiatives, offering programs meticulously crafted to address individual needs. With personalised guidance and hands-on assistance, our support workers empower clients to unlock their potential and reach their goals effectively. Whether it's improving communication, honing social skills, or fostering independence, our programs are designed to support clients every step of the way. It encompasses:

  • Daily routines support

  • Money management and budgeting assistance

  • Skill development activities

  • Participation in clubs and groups

  • Assistance with public transportation

  • Navigation of government services

  • Help to research and apply for study or training opportunities

Enhanced Living Arrangements

Receive assistance in searching for and applying for shared or independent accommodation, along with support in managing rental agreements and responsibilities. You can use these funds to enlist the help of a service provider to scout suitable rental properties online and assist with filling out application forms.

Increased Social Engagement

Access short-term or ongoing support to bolster your ability to manage life independently and participate in your community. This may involve joining community access programs or group activities. If your goals include improving social skills and expanding your social circle, funding could enable you to attend community camps or vacation groups, where you can meet new people and enhance your relationship skills.

Employment Assistance

Gain support to secure and sustain employment at various life stages. With funding in this category, you could engage a service provider specialising in employment for people with disabilities to update your resume, apply for jobs, prepare for interviews, or navigate the school-to-work transition.

Strengthened Relationships

Receive support for social skills development and behaviour intervention where needed. This could involve funding for a behaviour support plan aimed at minimising the likelihood of problematic behaviours.

Enhanced Health and Wellbeing

Benefit from physical wellbeing activities like personal training sessions and nutrition advice to promote a healthy lifestyle. NDIS funding can cover these supports if health, physical, and wellbeing challenges directly stem from your disability. For instance, you might choose to work with a nutritionist to create a tailored healthy eating plan.

Improved Daily Living

Access assessment, therapy, and training by professionals such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, or Registered Nurses, including Early Childhood Intervention. If you're funded in this category, you might allocate funds for occupational therapy and speech therapy assessment and intervention, for example, up to 30 hours per year.

Improved Learning

Assistance in exploring and pursuing educational pathways, including researching, and applying for study or training programs. If allocated funds in this category, you can engage a service provider to aid in your educational journey, such as transitioning from school to university. This support may encompass various aspects like scheduling, budgeting for educational materials, or having a support worker accompany you to classes. It's important to note that Improved Learning funding covers support costs exclusively and does not extend to covering standard course or tuition fees.
